So as a teen driver in the 1990s, we had a lot of car choices that were perceived as ‘cool’ even though they were slow. The Geo Tracker being one to point at. Cheaper and slower than a Jeep. Cooler than your mom’s old Mercury. Since we have the CUV craze...
What about a soft top CUV with no off road aspirations, neat features, wanting of horsepower, crazy colors. Cheap to buy, cheap to repair.
Maybe based around a two door version of this little bugger.
They look like cousins don’t they?

I would be okay with this, I think Honda could also pull it off. Take the HRV give it a Del Sol roof, bam! instant sorta fun buggy. Basically this is the idea we’re going for.

Partly true. I think Honda would need to do some recreational drugs before working up the nerve to do what I’m talking about. The Del Sol was inspired, but that was a long time ago.
I have to admit, the X90 was vaguely cool, but it had only two seats and came after the staggeringly popular Tracker/Sidekick and just couldn’t win hearts. About the same time as another unloved but epic idea.
